HOME VISITS

If you think a HOME VISIT is necessary, please make your request before 10.30 a.m.  Calls after this time may result in unnecessary delays as the doctor may have already commenced his visits.  Be prepared to give our staff some idea of the problem and its urgency.  Please make an appointment if at all possible as doctors can see 3-4 patients at surgery in the time it takes to see one patient at home.    Back to top

SERVICES PROVIDED                            Back to top  Each doctor provides a full range of maternity, family planning, minor surgery and child health surveillance services.  Patients, including new patients joining the practice, will be offered consultations for a health check as part of our programme for health promotion.

APPOINTMENTS

One appointment is needed for each patient and each appointment is normally for ten minutes.  Please ask to see the doctor you usually consult as this will help with continuity of care.  However, in an emergency, or with acute illness, a patient may be offered appointments with another doctor.  If you cannot keep the appointment you have made, please let the receptionist know as soon as possible so that the appointment may be given to someone else.  We try to keep to time with appointments.  If you are kept waiting, we apologise.  The doctor may be dealing with an emergency, or a complicated problem.  If there is a delay and this creates a problem please talk to the receptionist.

 PRESCRIPTIONS

We are a dispensing practice with dispensaries at both surgeries. When ordering repeat prescriptions (Wansford and King’s Cliffe patients) we offer the following methods- order online on this website- post your request to either surgery- fax your request  to 01780 783434- If the above methods are not possible you can please telephone  (01780) 783994 between 9a.m – 12noon.(Monday to Friday).  Please allow two working days before collection.  This allows your notes to be checked and the drugs to be ordered where necessary.  At approximately six monthly intervals, you may be asked to see the doctor for review.  All prescriptions must be signed and paid for at the time of collection unless a current exemption or pre-paid certificate is shown. Back to top  Health promotion activities

A wide variety of Health Promotion is offered including Heart Disease Prevention, Menopause Management, Diabetes and Asthma. Our Practice Nurses can offer advice regarding diet, smoking, alcohol consumption, exercise, stress and relaxation. We also offer Well Woman and Well Man screening.                    Back to top

Counselling

The practice has employed a practice counsellor, Ros Rodway, for 2 sessions per week. Evaluation of this service is in progress. Initial findings suggest the majority of these were appropriate referrals, attended for 5 or 6 of the 6 sessions offered and were felt by the counsellor to have improved with treatment. The service is well used and there is generally a waiting list for treatment              Back to top

Complementary practitioners

With the completion of our second Treatment Room, we have been able to have on site a wider range of clinicians which currently include an acupuncturist, a holistic body massage therapist, a homeopathist/reflexologist and an osteopath. Many patients regard these treatments as an effective adjunct to the traditional service offered by General Practitioners and we are pleased to be able to extend our facilities in this way. Patients can self refer to these services as they are provided on a private basis.                Back to top

Anticoagulant clinic

The practice is an accredited provider of anticoagulation services. This enables us to provide a convenient high quality service for patients who take warfarin and need regular blood tests. In 1998 we purchased a portable machine to give the blood test result within 2 minutes from a finger prick sample. Patients now have a one-stop service at the surgery avoiding the need for hospital attendance or for samples to be sent to the laboratory Back to top
