Training is an important part of the culture at Wansford surgery

The practice has been a training practice for over 30 years and currently three doctors are accredited trainers - Amrit Takhar, Rhiannon Nally and Nigel Hume. We have vacancies for GP registrars every 6-12 months and can host up to two GP trainees at any one time.We were also one of the first practices in the region to pilot the F2 Foundation year programme in 2005 and have now trained three FY2 doctors per year since then

You now apply for training places through the Medical Training Application Service

Dr Hume was Course organiser for several years at the local Peterborough Vocational Training Scheme

Dr Takhar has been  an examiner for the Video component of summative assessment. We have involved in providing training courses for Health professionals in Communications skills Research skills, Good clinical practice Depression and Computer training as part of Continuing Professional Development

OUT OF HOURS TRAINING

Currently GP registrars will take part in the Peterborough Out of hours service which patients access tthrough the 111 service

GP trainers remain responsible for ensuring that their registrars are appropriately trained in OOH work ccording to the COGPED RCGP position paper. Direct clinical supervision and 'hands-on' training may be provided by another appropriate individual.
PCOs and OOH Providers will provide appropriate clinical opportunity and clinical supervision for registrars. All trainers and associate trainers are automatically approved. Confirmation of approval of other doctors can be obtained from the relevant patch administrator.

Registrars will keep records of their OOH training in their ePortfolios.  This must be a shared entry. The Deanery will set standards for OOH training and will provide quality assurance for the whole process.

The purpose of out of hours work is to prepare GP Registrars to be safe, competent and confident in managing out of hours and emergency situations. This should be achieved through a wide range of experience and associated teaching and support. We aim to continue to offer this aspect of GP training
